Academics

Language Arts
The students are involved in whole group and small group instruction that allows them to identify and manipulate the sounds of language, learn how the alphabet works, enjoy learning from books and stories, develop writing to share ideas and information, and be successful with early reading and writing experiences.

Math
The students receive instruction in beginning concepts of numeration and the mathematical functions of addition and subtraction. Concepts will be introduced with manipulatives in order to work from the concrete into the abstract level of understanding. Throughout the year, experiences are provided in graphing, estimation, recognizing patterns, sorting, categorizing, working with shapes, time, measurement, and money. Students will be able to recognize and recite numbers to 30 and work with combinations of math facts up to 6.

Science
An interest in science is encouraged through the use of class projects and experimentation. Once a month the students participate in a grade level assembly with “Mr. Science” who demonstrates and explains scientific concepts such as atoms, molecules, air pressure, principles of flight, animal science, states of matter, solar system, earthquakes, volcanoes, plant cycle, landforms, electricity and magnetism, solar power, and insects.

Social Studies
Based on the California History-Social Studies Content Standards, the social studies program in kindergarten focuses on learning to work together, understanding where we work and live, identifying the different kinds of work that people do, and learning from the past. Through hands-on projects integrated throughout the year, students learn about our country through holidays, historical events, and patriotic experiences designed to instill patriotism and appreciation for the great country God has given us.

Bible
Through interactive Bible lessons, projects, and Scripture memory, the kindergarten students are given the opportunity to know and love the great God Who created their world.
